I ended up with Facerig, downloadable on Steam (a great excuse to install Steam on a work computer). The post on Facebook took me to this page (in Japanese) which explains some of the options, both for smartphones and computers. It turned out to be incredibly simple and relatively cheap. Inspired by a posting in a Facebook group for Japanese academics to discuss COVID about using a vtuber (“virtual youtuber”) for Zoom lectures, I decided to investigate how I could use a virtual avatar in place of my plain old mug in a Zoom lecture. If you have a similarly complex technical challenge that you would like to implement, we are always ready to help.If we’re all going to be locked down and locked into Zoom, then we might as well have a little fun with it. We are proud of this project and of what we could bring into it.

Here we would like to note that we created FaceRig with face recognition in real-time streaming and virtual avatar overlay in 2013, long before MSQRD and Snapchat. The technology recognizes mimics and face movements adapting the user’s virtual avatar to them and creating the impression of realistic, organic movement.

Long ago – in 2013 – we met Holotech Studios on UpWork where Adoriasoft was actively building partnerships with different clients. This is one of the cases when you are on the same wavelength with the client and are fully committed to breathe life in their idea.
